Jennifer Blush
My name is Jennifer Blush, but you can call me Jen. Currently I'm a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). It's my fourth year in the program. I earned my Master's degree in Cognitive Behavioral Sciences from Illinois State University (ISU). The majority of my training has been in Cognitive Psychology. For the past several years, my main research interests surround several aspects of bilingualism. For my dissertation, I am investigating how polysemous words (words with multiple related meanings) are shared and activated across a bilingual's two languages. My work with Dr. Bangert investigates how bilinguals identify the language they are presented with and what cues they use to make this decision. A more recent interest of mine has been conducting research in the classroom where I collect data from current students to improve my courses for the future. Other than just being a researcher, I am also an instructor in the Psychology department at UTEP. Thus far, I've had the opportunity to teach Introduction to Psychology, Statistical Methods, and a research methods writing lab. Teaching is awesome! I first started teaching at ISU where I also taught a research methods writing lab. Engaging with the students and seeing them grow is an irreplaceable and fulfilling feeling. I plan to obtain a teaching position post-graduation. |
